With the new Announcements redesign, the announcement's creation date is recorded on the post, even if it won't be published/available until a later date. It's the date that will always appear at the top of the announcement. When there's an "Available from" date that delays the posting, it will display as an Edited date to the right of the original creation date. However, it's not really the edited date, it is the date posted. There is no reason to have two dates appear, only the date posted should be visible to students. It is not necessary or useful for the student to see the announcement creation date, the date it was first written. With the previous Announcement version, the "Delay Posting" date/time was displayed as the date on the announcement, not when the post was written. Example: A welcome post is written to be released the first day of class by a teacher who is well prepared. If students see that it was written a month (or longer) beforehand, it will feel like a canned message rather than a personal real-time welcome. Example: A teacher might work on an announcement draft, there's no useful reason to show the date of the first draft. Only the final posted date is required.
Announcements should display only the posted (available from) date as the visible date at the top of an announcement.
