There is a new AI extension tool called “AnswersAi” that allows users to take a snapshot of a page via their desktop or mobile device to generate an answer for the content captured. At this time, Canvas does not have anything that would prevent students from taking screenshots using this extension. If a student has the AnswersAi extension tool enabled while on Canvas and takes a snapshot of an assessment or assignment, there is no current way to prevent this from happening by default unless the assignment is enabled with a proctoring service that blocks the extension.
To minimize instances of plagiarism, a solution would be to prevent students from using the AnswersAi service within Canvas by blocking the extension from being accessible from Canvas. The goal of this idea is to minimize the number of students who rely on an AI tool to submit assignments in Canvas.
