[Notifications] Ability to brand Canvas notifications

Notifications sent via Canvas are currently not able to be branded.  This means that the emails sent to parents and students currently include the Canvas name and logo. This can cause some confusion with the community as it has no direct tie to the school or organisation and has no consistency with the site or school branding.

Having the ability to apply custom branding to email notifications at the account and sub-account level would solve this issue.  I propose that we have the following options via the theme editor to customise the following areas of notifications.

  • Add the name of the organisation and the email address the notification is sent from
  • Ability to add the organisations' logo
  • Ability to edit the layout and colour scheme

We are an online course provider that serves multiple other institutions, and we'd like the ability to brand email notifications at the subaccount level, as well as customize the text of the email notifications generated. We would like to be able to include links to specific help materials and other custom resources within the text of that email so students feel more supported and know clearly where to go.

The ability to add custom text to specific types of notifications can be very helpful, especially when parents and students might be getting the same notification. A blurb of text for some might help each group know what to do with that announcement.

This idea is one of the lucky ones that was selected to get a little more time for voting as part of our evolution of the feature idea process. It was selected because of it's vote count and/or comment thread.

*Selection criteria: Most (not all) ideas that received 70+ votes in their initial voting round.

This would really be helpful. We love that Catalog lets us do it, and we'd really love if we could do it in our Canvas instance (without Catalog) as well!

Canvas sends out notifications through the +People option, but not by SIS imports... the technology is there, it's just not used.  Because we cannot customize/brand at this time, we have set up an external process to create our own customized email.  While this took some programming work, it's not flawless, and I would love to see this as a core feature.  Account, sub-account, notification of addition to a course, notifications of actions in a course would all be a big plus for Canvas.

This feature is so overdue!  Our school prides itself on it's branding but our communications with our students are un-brandable:(

Agreed.  We have a Visual Identity Office that provide a strict set of rules to follow; font, color, logo placement.  Yet, we can't conform in Canvas with the current set of tools.

Sam,

We don't have the Canvas Catalog, yet.  Would you mind sharing a screenshot of this?  I know it's not the solution to core Canvas, but I'm curious if there's a way we can use the Catalog to our advantage.
