Users need to be able to customize notifications at the course level

As a user, I want to be able to keep frequent notifications enabled for courses that have high interaction, that I am more invested in, or I find important.  I want to be able to 'down-tune' or disable notifications for courses that have a lot of activity but not much interaction, courses that I am involved in as a staff member, or by my role in the institution involved in but not participating in so I do not receive notifications that I will end up ignoring and then also miss important notifications.

If the premise of Canvas Notifications is to keep me engaged in courses and informed about my courses, I need to be able to control that at a course level for it to be valuable to me and not just a 'firehose' of information.  If I cannot control it more granularity, I may turn all Notifications off and then miss something I actually did want to know about.

Note from the Community Team:https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/3663-notifications-by-course also requests this capability. We consider combined support for both ideas as part of our regular prioritization process.

This idea has been developed and deployed to Canvas

I agree this is a high priority. Setting notification preferences at the course level is very important.

There's a new (active) feature request for this idea -- .  Closes for voting on Feb 3, 2016.

Thank you.

Many of our offerings here at The Evergreen State College feature faculty teams of 2 or more instructors.

Our faculty are using the Canvas Scheduler for evaluation conferences but frustrated by receiving notifications, in addition to their own, of student signups that are for other faculty teaching in the offering.

I am sorry I missed the chance to vote on the most recent feature request.

I am wondering if it would be easier to reconfigure the "architecture" of notifications if it was at least done by Role. It would help me to have my notifications configured differently for classes where I am in the Teacher Role versus classes where I am in a TA Role.

Not sure if it would be easier, but your idea would definitely be helpful!

irishb, in we're having a discussion which might lead to an idea specifically about single-instructor appointment groups in Scheduler.  I'd love to hear more about your faculty members' frustration (but in that other idea discussion, please).

Y'know, I broached this topic with some of my students the other day, and I was surprised at how not-offended they were by the idea that some notifications might get locked to a setting. I, of course, have a code-based theory that I'm working on for doing this right now.

As a program coordinator, I have access to many courses that are taught by adjunct instructors.  I don't need to see notifications for those courses but would like notifications for the classes I teach.
