I understand that Safari 16 is not supported, but the failure mode could be clearer.
I don’t have permission to post images, but you can see the broken page by going to the following:
(Note: this is not the failing URL, but it’s what I get to when going to https://canvas.instructure.com )
https://iad.login.instructure.com
it says “Whoops… Looks like nothing is here!” And “Requested URL is invalid.”
More friendly would be to detect the browser version and present something.
I’ve loaded the iPadOS simulator for 16.4 and was able to reproduce this on a clean iPadOS run, so it’s not a local settings issue.
https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Basics-Guide/What-are-the-browser-and-computer-requirement... Seems to be the best place for requirements, but it would be nice if the failing login page was more friendly.
Thanks for Canvas LMS!

Hi, @surl0295!
Thanks for sharing your ideas. You're correct that Safari 16 is not supported. To request a consideration for the UI to be updated to have a clearer error message, you can create an idea in the Ideas space. Learn more by checking out How do I create a new idea in the Instructure Community?

Hi @surl0295,
I noticed that you formatted the link as https://iad.login.instructure.com. That is a link format that I am not familiar with for logging in and when formatted like that the webpage that you described appears (I have provided below as a screenshot).
When the link is formatted as https://iad.instructure.com/login it is automatically changed to https://iad.instructure.com/login/canvas because (I believe) the primary authentication provider for IAD's Canvas instance is Canvas authentication. Please see the screenshot below.
Regardless of device and web browser, what is the login link that you are trying to use?

Thanks, I will check that out. (And I also ordered an updated iPad.)
What happened is the student accidentally logged out — I’m not sure when you updated, but the site itself was working fine, but the login page is broken.
Hi, @surl0295!
It might be worth asking the student to clear their cache and cookies and see if that helps. Often, when I see odd errors, that clears a lot up. If that doesn't do the trick, I'd recommend reaching out to your school's IT department or Canvas Support for assistance.

I appreciate that - yes, i did clear cache etc. actually, as i mentioned above, i created an entirely device (simulator) as well - the equivalent of an entire device erase and reset before posting here.
