Canvas app & grading periods

Does anyone have information on how grading periods affect the app?

We are a 1:1 iPad school so most of our students access Canvas through the app.  We want to turn on Grading Periods now that the bug has been fixed but I am unsure of how it will affect the students' view of their grades in the app.

We currently use grading periods and the App is displaying their grades as a cumulative grade including both first and second quarter.  This is same thing using the browser when they hit "View All" on their dashboard.  It's really frustrating!
