Can I just say "thanks" for all the great documentation that Canvas puts out regarding the mobile applications?

Are there any student friendly resources out their to help students with the Canvas mobile app? I made an interactive for my desktop/ laptop users and have embedded it below. I would love to make something similar for our mobile users.

I just started using Canvas 4 weeks ago. My experience so far has been to build a very traditional set of classroom assignments (reading homework -> quiz -> chapter test -> unit test) and now I'm ready to start pushing into more project based learning using the tools that I am learning about in the Canvas training videos. The biggest inspirations have been seeing how to leverage smartphones into learning devices.

At Callaghan College Wallsend Campus, we have a good BYOD program (bring your own device) with over 500 students with a registered BYOD (not including phones). However, students do not always bring them everyday for whatever reason. BUT - they all have a phone permanently attached to their hands/ears etc. There is a school rule that if the phone is being used for educational purposes, they can have it out in class, but if they are just sending Snapchats to each other, then no dice! We have been encouraging the use of the mobile app with them and although only in it's infancy, there are some surprising results. (Apart from their typing speed with two thumbs).

A few years ago in my face-to-face history class I started flipping my instruction. Each time the class meets there is a group activity. Students are grouped based on their interest in a course theme, as there is a theme-related capstone assignment for the class. I like to use the LMS for all assignment submissions, and doing that during class allows me to take roll concurrently. Having a mobile-friendly system like Canvas makes things a lot easier for my students. It also means I can use a broad definition of "mobile" to include any networked device a student can bring to a classroom, from laptops to smart phones.

Although we are limited with the design aspect of our courses (online instructors teach from a template) I will definitely spread the word on this tool to other Instructors in my office.

Recently, I was given a new toy to play with: Canvas LMS. To be honest, it's not Christmas unless something tech is involved. My institution is currently piloting Canvas (currently using Bb) and I'm in the first batch of classes to go live. After reviewing the online instructor on-demand course and video tours, I dug into the platform to play around. Yea! Fun times...

Canvas has a great mobile app. It can't do everything, but it can be used to create great mobile learning experiences.

Sometimes it’s overwhelming with all of the amazing online tools out there. So many to experiment with, and time needed to get to understand all of their different quirks.

I am not new to coding HTML and CSS and have written JavaScript and jQuery when necessary. I have worked with Bootstrap and used the Chrome and Firefox inspector tools to test presentations on different sized screens. So when I downloaded the Canvas app to my Motorola phone, I didn’t expect too many challenges.

I have loved using Canvas, the switch has basically guaranteed student success. Students can turn in work from phones, use cameras to document project based learning assessments. When students are sick they return with all work and lessons complete. My students walk into the classroom, look at pop-up notifications and know exactly what to do, and what we will be doing in class that day. I love this!

I was recently browsing the internet for random quotes or facts to put put on the backside of some personal business cards. I found interesting information such as "76% of MOOC attendees are male." (Chronicle of Higher Education).

Canvas provides instructors with an opportunity to rethink the technological side of their course - and mobile activity is one of the major areas in which this occurs! As I watched the video series for mobile assignments (which is fantastic, by the way), it really made me think that we design courses as if we are transferring them from paper to electronic, instead of being "born digital."

Generally, I like to view material at 1.5x or higher - otherwise, the data rate is so low that it is basically hard to concentrate on the material.

We've all been there. You find the perfect website that has content that you would love to share in your Canvas course, only to find, after the fact, that the content doesn't scale appropriately or doesn't render when opened on a mobile device.

It seems hard to think of for those of us that take our cell phones and tablets for granted - but for many students - and for that case - faculty, mobile is not something on their mind.

First off, I'm new. I'm new to Instructional Design. My route here was through teaching K12 and adjuncting online for a community college and then joining that college as its Instructional Designer. However, I've noticed one truth: most instructors are the same.

Sitting in a work group this morning we discussed several new initiatives coming our way. As the team leader responded to inquiries on how new platform updates would impact what students see as they log into the LMS this fall, several alerts cascaded down from the top: an email received, a 15-minute reminder for the next calendar event, a text message. As I think more about designing courses with mobile in mind, this stands out to me.

Mobile learning represents an interesting case study of the kinds of problems we will encounter with educational technology in general. It's technology that is old enough to be widespread, but still new enough to not be ubiquitous or firmly integrated with praxis. We think its cool, but we're not sure what to do with it yet. What I'm most curious about is what sets mobile technology apart from other tools available to educators. What can mobile learning do that other things can't?

As an initial foray into how do students want us (the College) to communicate with them we had a small group of students answer some questions about how they are already using technology and how they would like to receive information. The information below is a slice of what we found and how it relates to mobile.

According to my latest wireless plan billing, my 14 year old used 1 GB of cell data and 33 GB of wireless data.  As I teach a course that has a learning outcome involving how technology impacts society, these values made me give pause and reflect.  Could this 33GB be one or two full length ultra HD movies?  Knowing my son, he is more interested in sports, humor clips, Instagram (or at least he was last week), sending photos to his pals, etc. and not viewing digitally remastered high definition versions of Casablanca.
