In this update, the Canvas Parent app supports setting alerts for global announcements, creating observer accounts, and resetting the app cache. The app and the login page have been redesigned for improved usability. The Settings menu has been replaced by the User Menu.
The Alerts page supports alerts for global announcements.
Create Account Option
The Parent app supports creating a Canvas observer account. The option to create an account is only available for institutions with self registration enabled.
To create an account, observers will need to enter a student pairing code, which can be generated by a student in the student’s User Details page.
The Settings menu has been replaced by the User Menu. The options to manage observed students, get help with the app, and log out of the app have been moved to the User Menu. Observers can also switch between observer accounts using the Change User option.
App Cache Reset
The Parent app supports resetting the cache when the app is launched. Resetting the cache will clear all information on a device that is specific to the app, including login details and app settings. Because a cache reset will remove app information from the device, this feature should only be used with errors that make the app unusable.
After enabling the Reset Cache on Next Launch option, users must force close and relaunch the Parent app for the cache to reset. The Reset Cache on Next Launch option will toggle to the Off position after the app has launched.
Act as User Option
Admins can use the Act as User link in the User Menu to masquerade as a user in the Parent app. When an admin is acting as the user, a magenta border and the user's Profile icon display on every page.
