Why do Assignment Group titles show up in the grade book?

@jmiss12 ...

One of the reasons for Assignment Group titles showing up as columns in the Gradebook is because you can weight assignment groups.  For example, you might have quizzes in your course worth 50% of the total grade, Written Papers worth 40% of the total grade, and discussion responses worth 10% of the total group.  You can set up your Assignment Groups to have these percentages, and then you'll see those reflected in the Gradebook.  Another (related) reason is from the student's side.  Check out: How do I view my grades in a current course?.  About half-way down this page is a section on "View Assignment Groups".  This gives students an idea of how they are doing throughout the course for each Assignment Group that you include in your course.

I hope this will be of some help to you.  Take care, stay safe, and be well.
