There is currently not a Canvas function for students to mark attendance, but there is a feature idea for just that. Check it out at https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/4292-attendance-pin , and vote to support if appropriate.

In the meantime, you could accomplish this using a Google Form embedded in a Canvas page that students check into each time they go into Canvas.  This discussion can get you started https://community.canvaslms.com/groups/designers/blog/2015/04/23/using-google-docs-for-dynamic-canva...
