Since the beginning of the Spring 21 quarter, the Back Button in Canvas does not function as before. When looking at the browser history it shows that most pages seem to load between two and six times. Is there an explanation for this impeded functionality or some kind of work around?

There's no known issue with Canvas that would explain what you're experiencing. Have you tried a different browser to see if the issue is also there?
You may want to bring this up with your Canvas admin for your institution. They may have custom scripts that are causing the behavior and will want to know.
