Can a user have mulitple roles within the same course? Sub accounts?

We have a course that has a few people that need admin and student roles.  For example if they are set up as an admin they can not sign up for a meeting slot with the main teacher when created in the calendar, only those with student roles can do this.  I am wondering if there is a way to make it so they have two roles?  Would it be possible to keep them as the student role in the main course and then create sub accounts where they have an admin role?  Giving them different permissions in different accounts?  I would love any advice or insights into this, if it is even a possibility.  Thanks!

Hi Mindi, yes you can have multiple roles. Just add the person to the course again with the new role, they will then have permissions for both roles.  This may be dependent on your institution's permissions but has worked for me.

Thanks Tina, that is a great idea!  Unfortunately it didn't work for me, the people still only show up in the class once even after I tried adding them in a different role.  I appreciate your help!

They should still only appear in the course once but they should have two roles as shown below. If that doesn't appear for you then it may be to do with your institutions permissions perhaps, I'm not sure?

Hi Tina, good to know!  I don't have the permissions tab, I will have to have to work with the admin, I believe he is the only one with that tab.  Thanks again!  Fingers crossed we can work it out!

Mindi this guide (How do I edit user roles in a course? ) may provide some further information. It does state that if your course enrollments were added via SIS import then you wont be able to edit/add roles. Also the ability to edit user roles is a course permission so it could be that your institution has restricted that feature. Good luck.

Thanks so much Tina!  I can edit user roles in the course it just won't let me add two roles, but we are going to look into the permissions thing.  It is interesting how the institutions have things set up differently.  You have been very helpful, thanks again!!  I appreciate it!
