[ARCHIVED] Can you recover from a delete?

I inadvertently deleted a "new quiz" in canvas, and therefore also deleted the scores of those students who had taken it.  Is there any way to recover this data?

Hi,  @karen_lorenz ‌, the answer is: possibly. Try the instructions in Undeleting things in Canvas‌, and if that doesn't work, ask Canvas Support to help you restore the content (How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor?‌). Good luck, Karen!

Thank you. I have since recreated the quiz, as it is part of a module with a due date of tomorrow at 10 am. I am, therefore, more concerned about the scores.

 @karen_lorenz ‌, recreating a new version of the same quiz from scratch will not, unfortunately, restore the scores. Generally speaking, when a deleted quiz has been restored to a course, students' activity associated with it is also restored.

Thank you for the follow-up. I did suspect that that was the case; however, time was of the essence and I did not realize I would get a reply from you in such short order. I needed to be able to have something ready for my students to work on immediately, and then I was going to come to terms with the score recovery part of my dilemma.

Assuming I am able to recover the deleted quiz (which I know is not a guarantee), do you think there will be problems with having duplicate assignments?

 @karen_lorenz ‌, I would indeed anticipate that this will be a problem. I suggest that, assuming you are able to restore the original quiz and its associated scores, you manually grade each one to excuse the students who didn't take the first quiz but completed the second, and vice versa. You'll still have two grade columns for this quiz in your Gradebook, but students' total course grades should be accurate.
