Canvas Sync Errors

Does anyone know a solution to the sync issue that some of our teachers are having? I will use myself in the example.

I create an assignment for Q2. Everything syncs wonderfully. During Q3, I do the same thing, but at some point during the term while looking at Monitoring and Reporting in my course, I see Errors with the sync. Some assignments will sync with no errors. The errors are showing "Details: Unable to update assignment Drops #12 Reason: HTTP response HTTP/1.1 409 Conflict response: {"message":"The specified assignment is locked.","errors":[{"resource":"Assignment","field":null,"code":"Locked","messageParams":null}]" This error is saying that this assignments is in a locked term. This particular assignment is in a locked term, but I am not trying to sync this assignment. It is in Q2. I am only trying to sync my Q3 assignments. If I go back to Q2 and toggle the "sync to PTP" option to not sync for every assignment, I can get my Q3 grades to sync properly.

I am wondering why one would need to go back into previous terms in order to make the current term sync properly. If my term is locked in Canvas and in PTP, those assignments should not even try to sync.

That is the same issue we are having. Sometimes the assignment title will

go, but not the grades. I am the admin for Canvas. I have had to uncheck

quite a few assignments for different teachers. Was your admin able to do

something that makes the Q1 assignments stop syncing?

I'm not sure what he did to make sync automatically turn off at the end of the term. Might be a setting somewhere in the admin menus

Is there any way that you could forward my email address and get me in

touch with your Canvas Admin? You could email me directly at

jroney@columbiaschools.org

Canvas does not seem to be able to tell me what to do except turn off the

sync for each Q1 assignment.

Hi Joe,

I spoke with our Canvas administrator, and he said that there isn't a setting on the Admin end to automatically turn off sync at the end of the grading period. It should just do it automatically on the date. That said, turning off sync for Q1 assignments fixes the problem, so you or the teachers will have to do this, and it will fix it

We too are having the same issue.   It seems like there was a window of time (Oct - mid-Nov) that assignments did not sync for some classes.    We have un-synced the Q1 assignments but still are getting the error message for grades entered between (mid-Oct thru mid-Nov).  The assignments came thru o.k. but we can't get the grades to go thru.  All grades and assignments entered after Mid-Nov are syncing perfectly!

any ideas on how to resolve?   What does this mean?

HTTP response HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request response: {"message":"At least one of the specified assignment sections is locked.","errors":[{"resource":"AssignmentSection","code":"Locked"}]}

I had to go back into teacher gradebooks and find assignments from Q1 that

we're still set to sync. I always found at least one assignment where I had

to toggle the sync to PTP to off. Then it took longer for grades to sync

but by the end of the day they had moved over.

When we get this error, it has always been an assignment from the previous

quarter that is still trying to sync. Like in the image below, I have had

to toggle this one until it turns black to not sync. Even though the

teacher may have gone through all of them, I always find one more.

Sometimes the teacher has been locked out of being able to make this

change. I have to do it as an admin in Canvas.

We just started getting these errors about a month ago. They apparently are connected to the fact that our PowerSchool person turned on a feature called "Lock Reporting Term." This prevents teachers from entering a grade in PowerSchool past a certain date...similar to what we call a "Close Date" in Canvas. When I had the PS person turn this off for one of our schools, the errors went away.
Unfortunately, right now, the only solution is telling teachers they must unsync all assignments after a grading period closes. I am hoping that the Canvas people will come up with a better solution than that over the long haul, even though this is being caused by utilizing a feature in PowerSchool.
