I am a student at a community college. For one of my courses, our professor requires students to upload short (minimum 2 minutes) videos in reponse to a discussion question. I usually record the video on my iPad or iPhone, and they are often 4-5 minutes long, and around 250-390 Mb in size. These are stored in the device as a IMG_####.mov where #### is a sequential four digit assigned by the device. e.g. IMG_0595.mov.
After recording the video, I then go to Canvas LMS, choose the topic discussion for the week, and then press the icon corresponding to Upload/Create Media. I then choose the recorded video (normally in my Photos area on my iPhone or iPad), and then the video appears briefly, followed by a spinning icon.
Here is where the problem starts: the icon never stops spinning. I can leave it alone for many minutes, even hours, and the video never concludes. So, I cannot hit the [Reply]. In some cases, I have hit [Reply] after many minutes, and a blank entry appears.
I have also attempted to record a video directly in the response box for that week‘s discussion, but the results are the same. Among the other students in my course, some have had similiar experiences; others, have succeeded in upload a video. But when I have inquired about they do, the steps that they take are the same; some succeed, others have had the same problems that I have had.
Any suggestions?
Hi @DaveHK
It can be frustrating when you can't achieve the task you are set. I wonder, does your College have access to Canvas Studio? If so, you could use this to create and share your video as required.
Let me know how you go.
Thanks
Jen
@DaveHK welcome to the global forum. There are a number of reasons this could be happening, and you really need to reach out to your prof or to tour local technical support team so that they can check whether there is a basic issue within your control or the institution's control that would resolve this. There is a 500MB limit for student media.
Given that other students are affected I would recommend that your prof discusses this further with his technical support to avoid further issues. Good luck.
Hi @DaveHK,
Depending on the course design and how long you have been doing this, you might have run out of storage space.
I would recommend following the guidance in the How do I view my user files? - Instructure Community - 617227 article and see if you are out of storage space.
If you are, you have two main options:
