Difficulty Updating a Simple Syllabus

Hello.

Can someone tell me how to update a Simple Syllabus after it has been posted to Canvas, please? I do not see any way to do this; for example, I do not see a link or icon I can use to edit the simple syllabus.

Note, I am using simple syllabus from this month of May, 2025.

Hello @zbragg ...

I am a Canvas admin at an art school in Detroit, and we also have Simple Syllabus integrated into our own Canvas environment.  I assume that you also have a "Simple Syllabus" link located on your left-hand course navigation?  I don't have my work laptop with me right now in order to see the exact screens for Simple Syllabus, so this is going off of my own memory at the moment.  When you look at your Simple Syllabus document within Canvas, do you see any kind of button or link near the very top or bottom of the document to edit the document?  This isn't my school, but I searched for a YouTube video to see if anyone had posted a guide on how to edit their Simple Syllabus document.  I found this one:

At around the 10:48 mark of the video, you can see where the guy clicked on an "Edit Syllabus" button at the top of his Simple Syllabus document.

If you do not have this capability, you will probably need to reach out to your Canvas administrator and/or the person who handles third-party integrations like Simple Syllabus with Canvas.  I know there are lots of permission settings within the back-end of Simple Syllabus, and there may be things in place where approvals need to be made before you could edit again.  But, this would be something you'd need to confirm on your end with your Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Ed team who deals with Canvas and external third-party integrations such as Simple Syllabus.

Sorry that I don't have other information for you, but I hope this will be of some help.  Good luck!

Good morning!

You may not need to see an "Edit" button to begin making changes—editable components should be editable as soon as you click the Simple Syllabus link.

If you're seeing what appears to be a published document and are unable to make edits, it could be an authentication issue.

In that case, we recommend clicking the Help icon on your screen to contact our support desk. We'd be happy to take a closer look and help resolve the issue!
