Formula Question Curiosity

Jump to solution

We have an instructor with a unique request and thought I'd pose the question here -

Scenario: An instructor creates a Formula Question (let's call it Q1) in Quizzes.Next that generates variables (let's call them V1, V2, and V3).

Request: The instructor would then like to use V1, V2, and V3 from Q1 for the next two Formula Questions (Q2 and Q3) without generating new values for the variables.

I'm thinking this isn't a possibility, but I am not at all versed in LaTeX or formula writing.

Any thoughts?

@coxmic  is correct that it is not available.

There have been multiple requests for this functionality in the legacy version of quizzes, but Canvas has stopped development on the legacy version of quizzes, so it's not going to happen there.

There is an active feature request for it, which was originally created under the classic version of quizzes but had the title updated to reflect Quizzes.Next: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/2363-multiple-answers-in-a-formula-question

There's a similar request to allow for multiple numeric response items within a single question: https://community.canvaslms.com/ideas/8172-multiple-numerical-blanks

Hi  @rsasso ,

I wanted to check in as I noted that your question seems to have the community a little stumped. Were you able to find an answer to your question possibly through some of your own additional sleuthing?

If you found a solution that solved this, it would be great to hear from you how you did (as this will help anyone else that finds your question in future).

Cheers,

Hi Stuart,

No, I'm afraid I have had no luck in sleuthing on my own. It's ok, we worked around the issue with the instructor at the time.

Thanks for checking in! Appreciate it!

Hi  @rsasso ,

No worries at all, I will leave this open for the time being (and this will have bumped it back up to get some additional visibility so see if anyone has any ideas.

Hopefully someone might have some creative ideas. I will also share this with the Instructional Designers‌ group to see if anyone in there might have some input for you.

Hope that helps!

Stuart

I have asked for this functionality, e.g. multiple answers in a formula (or numerical) question. It is not available as of yet.
