As an instructor, how do I add Google docs as a tab in Navigator? Google docs is a registered service (I completed that process) but I have no idea how to access it via Canvas-- I dont see it anywhere. I saved our last zoom class to my computer and now need to upload it to google docs and have students be able to access the file via Canvas, via Google Docs. How do I do that?
Hello @sherondamike ...
When you enable Google Drive as a "Registered Service" in your Canvas profile, that only enables it for assignment uploads and collaborations...per the documentation in this Guide: How do I connect to Google Drive as a web service in Canvas as an instructor?. So, you wouldn't see a "Google Drive" button on your course navigation. The other way that Google Drive can be integrated with Canvas is via the Google Drive LTI external app. Usually, this is installed and configured by your school's local Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning/eLearning department. After this LTI app is installed, it does put a Google Drive button on your course navigation so that you can sign in and access your files on your Google Drive account right within Canvas.
You also said that you recently held a Zoom meeting with your students. Do you know if your school has integrated Zoom in your Canvas environment? There is a LTI integration for that, too. It places a "Zoom" button in your course navigation where you can schedule Zoom sessions right within your course. Also, if you record those sessions to the cloud, and then your students can access the recordings right from the "Zoom" button. You wouldn't need to save them again to your Google Drive account...which seems like a bit of extra work on your end. Here are some documents on the Zoom LTI integration you could pass along to your local Canvas administrators if they haven't yet integrated it with Canvas.
I hope this information will be of help to you. Let Community members know if you have any other questions about this...thanks! Take care, and be well.
