grade book total -- what are the components -- how is it determined? how do I get rid of 'total'

Good morning,  @dave_swickheime ...

This Guide, How do I use the Total column in the Gradebook?, might be of help to you.  However, you cannot get rid of the "Total" column entirely...though as you'll see in the blue box at the top of this Guide, there are some other ways to customize that column.

The light blue shaded box in the Guide that I linked to is at the very top of the screen...above the section called "Open Grades".  It contains two short paragraphs and three bullet points.
