Gradebook Column Direct Addition

I have occasional quizzes that need to be added to the gradebook that are not regular assignments.  How can I add new columns directly into the gradebook page such as is possible with Blackboard?

Having to go into "assignments," add one and then go back into the "gradebook" page, scroll right to the end where it was added and then drag the column into the appropriate place for every quiz for every class I teach is terribly time consuming and very frustrating.

At this time, you cannot add a column directly to the Gradebook in Canvas.  There have been a number of feature requests for this feature in the past, but none have made the votes necessary to move forward.
