Gradebook settings

I am trying to set an automatic reduction in grade for late assignments.  I go to the gradebook and go to settings in the gradebook.  The ability to give 0's for non submissions is grayed out, the ability to automatically deduct points for late assignments is grayed out.  All of my assignments have due by dates as well as available until dates.

Have you checked the boxes to apply those grade settings? The fields to define the grades/deductions will be greyed out until you've checked the missing or late submission box:
