Gradesync "Invalid Marking Period"

Hello!
I am a high school teacher trying to use Gradesync. I keep receiving error messages which read: {"request_id":965249,"status":422,"error":"Invalid Marking Period"}. I have an assigned due date for the assignment, but not an open/close date. Does anyone know what "Invalid Marking Period" might mean? The courses are both for this academic year.
