How are discussion topics in statistics measured

Jump to solution

Hey,

When you go to admin -> analytics you will get an overview of the account statistics. One of the numbers is discussion topics.

One of our subaccount has 7 discussions according to these statistics, but when I looked through the individual courses I coudn't find any, but I did find 7 announcements.

Question: Does Canvas count every announcement as a discussion topic in the account statistics?

Yes: In theese statistics Announcements are counted as discussions.

But I have seen people manage to seperate this using API: https://community.canvaslms.com/thread/30507-visualization-of-canvas-analytics-and-statistics

Thanks. That's good to know.

Does this also have an effect on the activity in the category discussions in analytics? Will an announcement views count as a discussion page view?

I can't say 100% because this is poorly documented, but i believe so.

so, what you meant is that you can ignore the first intervention of the teacher and count from the second intervention in the forum?
