How can I set up Canvas to administer a midterm exam?

Other than having a Lockdown Browser installed (we actually have licenses for GoGuardian Teacher so it is a bit different), what are the other necessary steps or prerequisites that one needs to take in order to set up a Canvas quiz as a midterm exam?  For example, we want to make sure our students only have access to Canvas.  However, we want them to have access to only THIS assignment.  Therefore, I would think it would be good idea to turn off access to the other assignments in the course.  Is there anything else that I am not thinking of that needs to be done?  Does anyone here have licenses and use GoGuardian Teacher?  I am curious how he/she uses that when administering Canvas New Quizzes.  Thanks so much.

@rpsimon I notice no one else has chimed in so I thought I would share...

Canvas does not have any sort of lockdown as part of their product so there are no other steps for what you are trying in terms of "Canvas".  GoGuardian, ProctorU, Respondus, Procotorio, etc. are all external products that work with Canvas to accomplish locking down the computer or even AI/remote proctoring.  A tool like those would be needed to do any blocking of access to anything.  The second catch to this is I am not sure which ones will work with New Quizzes.  Up until extremely recently, Respondus was the only tool that would work (although I have heard that is has mixed results) with New Quizzes.  We use Proctorio and that product was just released in the beta state to work with New Quizzes.

Pretty sure that was not much help, but wanted to let you know all the settings would have to be done using GoGuardian if you are hoping to lock things down.

Thank you @nwilson7 .  Yes, this wasn't much of a help but I really do appreciate you taking a stab at this! 😉

So we are using GoGuardian Teacher.  My question is how to only allow access to a certain assignment.  Now I know.  I think what would have to be done is for the teachers to have to lock the other content and assignments, making them completely unavailable to the students.  Does this make sense?  Am I missing anything else?

Will the students be taking this exam in a controlled setting (e.g. in a classroom)? My students are still taking classes from home, and test security is impossible.

Yes, the students will be taking the test in a classroom setting.  I wish you much luck and success with your students taking their tests at home!  I'd recommend that at home, they would be required to have their webcams on, so you can see what they are doing.

@rpsimon I have only used Respondus and Proctorio and with those, you can force full screen and not allow other tabs to open (or be open when the exam is launched).  When you use these settings there is no need to hide anything in Canvas because they have no way to open the other items once the have launched the exam.  I assume GoGuardian has a similar setup and if so, this would mean you can leave your course as is without trying to hide everything.
