How can I show question name and question group to a student?

Jump to solution

We would like to question group field to be used as learning objective and questions name to be used as unique identifier. We would like these to be shown to student when they take a quiz so that they can identify a question by identifier.

How can we show these fields to students?

@stattamangalam , this information is not available to students. If you'd like to make it available to students then for each question you would need to add the identifier to the top of the question text and for each question group you'd want to add a "Text (no question)" question with the learning objective.

Hope this helps!

@stattamangalam , there is no setting that makes the the fields for question names and question groups visible to students. However, you can put the question name (or other desired unique identifier) within the question text, and you can separate your questions with "questions" of the "Text-No Question" type containing the learning objective; these will effectively provide a title for the next set of questions.

We are showing only certain number of questions from the question group to the students in their quiz attempt. We want the question group and question name to show with each of the question pulled.

I am not sure if "Text-No Question" type will help in such scenario. Will it?

@stattamangalam , even if your question group is set to pull X of Y questions, the "Text-No Question" type will work. You would need to put that question as a spacer between groups--not in the group itself, because if the Text-No Question is placed in the question group, it will be randomized just as if it were one of the questions, rather than appearing at the beginning of its ensuing set of questions. However, if both the question group and question name must show with each question, the only way to accomplish that at the moment is to incorporate that information in the body of the question itself. (You could also establish a naming protocol for your questions, for internal purposes only, that identifies the learning objective and unique identifier.) If this is critical functionality for your assessments, you might want to suggest it in the Canvas Feature Ideas space after reading How do I create a new feature idea?

Thank you for your response. It is helpful to understand quiz better.

Canvas quiz has all the data – Question Group and question name. There should be a way to retrieve it when needed, either to show it to the students or pull it in report format needed using respondus.

I will try the feature idea.

Thank you!

No, the text (no question) would only show above each set of questions; so only once and wherever you added it at.

If you want both sets of information on each question then you would need to manually add it to the top of each question.
