How come I can't make a new course as a Teacher?

I am trying to create a new course and the option is not available.  I have gone to dashboard and there's no link or button to create a new course.  I was hoping to take a preexisting course I have built with a colleague and then pick and choose for our lower grade students some of the assignments (thus import the class to another course and continue to fiddle from there). Any help would be appreciated as I am new to Canvas and all its inner workings

 @petersa , greetings, my guess is that your school has turned off the ability for Instructors to create their own new courses. My recommendation is to contact the Canvas Admins or Canvas Support at your school and see if they can help get you a new course.
