How do I set my students' grade for an assignment as a percentage instead of a point value in the Gradebook

Jump to solution

Hi. I am an instructor and in the grade book some of my assignments show up as point values. I would like them to display as percentages. Thank you.

Hello,  @wildrip , and welcome to the Canvas Community! Assignments and graded discussions will appear in the Canvas gradebook as percentages, and you can enable this in the settings for the assignment or discussion. For more information, please refer to How do I add or edit details in an assignment? and https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-1977 (adjust the grade type). However, quizzes cannot be displayed in the gradebook as a percentage, only as points, and the points that display correspond to the total number of points each quiz is worth. I manage that by manipulating the points possible for each question within the quiz so as to make each of my quizzes worth 100 points, thereby mimicking a percentage; if I want a particular quiz to count more toward the overall course grade, I use weighted assignment groups to manage that.

"However, quizzes cannot be displayed in the gradebook as a percentage, only as points, and the points that display correspond to the total number of points each quiz is worth." -- That's exactly what I would like to see changed. I weight all of the quizzes in my course equally, but the inability to work with percentages makes that very cumbersome.

You're not alone in that sentiment,  @matthewthomas ‌.
