I am an instructor looking to copy and paste announcements, but every time I do so it seams to replace my account with a "U". How do I change this so it shows I am the one posting?
Hello @MadeleineTrueba
Thank you for contacting the Instructure Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with copying announcements. Are you using your mouse to highlight all the text or even your keyboard to CTRL C or V to copy paste? Sometimes you can pick up extra HTML unknowingly depending on how your announcements are formatted or what all actually got highlighted. If you use your keyboard, try pasting it as CTRL SHFT V instead of just CTRL V (CMND V on Mac) and it will keep the formatting the same. This may help. Additionally, you can copy announcements from one course to another:
How do I copy an announcement to another course? - Instructure Community
@MadeleineTrueba ...
According to this Guide, How do I use the Announcements Index Page?, "A profile picture displaying the letter U in place of a user's profile picture indicates that an announcement was imported using a course copy, the Course Import Tool, or a blueprint course. Additionally, copied announcements do not include a posted date and time." I found this by looking at a past reply from @kona ... Solved: Announcement question u - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com).
Have you tried editing the announcement, but not actually making any edits on it, and then saving the announcement to see if the "U" in the avatar image changes to your own profile picture?
Keep us posted here in the Community...thanks!
"editing the announcement, but not actually making any edits on it, and then saving the announcement"
does not change the "U".
Up to now, the only thing that works for sure it creating a new announcement, and copying the old content into it. then erasing the old "U" version .... which is a pain in the lower backside.
@srandall3 ...
Fair enough. I last replied in this thread back in September 2023, so it's possible that Instructure (the folks that make Canvas) could have changed things a bit as it relates to the "U" on announcements.
