How to Restart Failed Video Upload to Studio?

For the second time in 24 hours, the upload of one of my videos from Studio in Canvas has failed.  This time I have the video data captured on my computer in the "Screen Recorder" folder.  Subfolder is "Data" and files mostly end in ".vc"

Because Screen Recorder stalled (and reported a "failed" upload, I cancelled out of it) and tried to upload one more time from the start within the open window and nothing happened ("0% file uploading" message for 10+ minutes) -- which led me to decide it was a screen freeze so I closed out of the window.  Now, I cannot figure out how to get the files uploadeding again. 

Can someone please help me avoid having to re-record another lecture?  I really don't have time for this failure of technology given the work at hand.  Thanks!

I'm sorry you're running into these issues - nobody wants to have to do things twice (or thrice!).  Do you mind saying when you first tried to upload it, or when you second attempt was?  The reason I ask this is because on the 20th there was some emergency maintenance on Arc, basically to fix errors when uploading videos.  If you haven't tried since yesterday I really hate to say "try it again" - but the engineering team has made some improvements to alleviate this.

Thanks, the other post re green video w/audio might have also been me as I did post a question about this earlier.  On a positive note, by accident, I just figured out how to go "Back to My Recordings" on the upload window when uploading another video into Studio.  When I hit this link, I saw my "lost" file again and I'm now in the process of re-uploading it.  Why there isn't a FAQ about how to get to this "Back to My Recordings" area, or better yet, a link on the main video recording page or within Studio to get to it, escapes me.  I've wasted A LOT of time (mine own and that of others like you) today before stumbling on what appears to be a solution.

The first problem occurred yesterday...recording 20+ minute video using webcam that came through with only audio and a green screen behind me.  Today, about 1 hour ago, I attempted to upload another 16+ minute video using screen capture (only) that froze during the upload process.  I've got the data file with (".vc" files, whatever they are?) but I can't figure out how to restart the upload process.  Why is this so difficult?  If I had a paid subscription to Screencast-O-Matic (like others I know) the video file would be captured on their site and I could just import it into Canvas.  I'm about to bail on the crappy performance of "Studio" (formerly known as "ARC") within Canvas.  I cannot afford to lose work at this time.

I'm sorry that I don't have anything to add except that I saw your inbox message and that I tried recording and uploading a web cam video to Studio and couldn't recreate what you are experiencing.

This is my third try to upload a simple 30 minute audio lecture using screen capture to follow a powerpoint slideshow. I am using a Mac Catalina OS and Chrome, and I worked directly from the Studio link in Canvas.  When I finished recording, everything stated that the file was ready to process and upload, then it just stalled, and stalled, and stalled, then logged me out! When I logged back on this was the message I received- Again:

Why did my video upload fail?

There are a few common things that cause uploaded videos to fail processing:

  1. Your Quicktime file has external references. Quicktime allows you to edit videos, including adding pieces of separate video files. Unfortunately, saving from Quicktime merely references pieces of separate videos, which means that they’re not included in the file that’s uploaded.

  2. Your video file contains a portion of either audio or video that is not supported.

  3. Your video file is corrupt or its format is unidentifiable and doesn’t match the file extension.

Thinking that perhaps the content went over the MB limit, I ran a test:  I tried a 1 minute recording that only showed 1 lousy slide- and the same thing happened - stall, stall, stall, then sorry- you lose!!  I am incredibly frustrated and I too don't have time for this nonsense.  If this fussy platform is overloaded or not working properly, then someone needs to publish a notification!

This was a life saver! Thanks. I had the same problem. Studio stalled out when I was previewing a 75 minute video lecture I had just recorded. Then my computer restarted. Although the video was nowhere to be found in Studio/Canvas, I found the data files on my macbook (....>documents>screen recorder>recording), but could not for the life of me figure out how to get Studio/Screen recorder to re-access them to encode. So, I made a 10 second test recording just to get back to the publish screen, and when there, I hit "back to my recordings" (top left corner of dialog box) as you suggested. And there was the "lost" video! It even had a message saying it was saved to my computer but not uploaded. Clicked on it, then hit publish. Saved me tons of time!!!
