How to keep Roll Call Attendance out of the grade book?

Hello,
Does anyone know of a way to keep the Roll Call Attendance assignment our of the grade book? If I recall correctly, you could delete the assignment or simply unpublish it in the past, but it seems to repopulate now when you take attendance. Did something change?
I know that I can mute the column, but we don't want the students to see it in their grade book at all.

We have been informed in the past that this was a limitation of the Roll Call Tool and why we have never turned it on at our institution. It was an all or nothing tool. It had to be on and visible in every course or off for every course. This does not work for our school.
