This error message happens every time that I try to submit anything into an assignment on the student app. I already know how to upload items, but the files fail to upload every time. I'm trying to use canvas with 6th-grade students on iPads. Any advice on how to fix this problem? What am I doing wrong?

Following up here- I believe this was an issue with inst-fs and we were able to work with that team and get the issues resolved. If you are still having troubles uploading files please let us know.

So, to confirm, does this happen every single time regardless of location on this device? Trying to figure out if this is only happening on school wifi, home wifi, cellular data, or all of the above. Thanks.
Yes, I've tried on multiple WiFi networks and over cellular data as well. I get the same message every time.

I'm sorry to hear that. Are they having a problem submitting from within the Student app or from a 3rd party application? If from a 3rd party, which one exactly?
