How do I switch from an instructor to a student. I've been trying to access some files sent to my courses dashboard but I've been unable to. I strongly believe it's because of my wrong input while registering.

The easiest way is to choose student preview from the upper right hand corner. This will make you the sample student and you will be able to see things as student see them..
Also watch those green checkboxes.. I often forget to publish both the module and the post (give them each a green check).. The materials may be there but not visible to a student.
Switching to student Preview is really effective practice.

Hi @victory125,
Expanding upon what @DrTerriC said:
- You can refer to the How do I view a course as a test student using Student View? - Instructure Community - 1122 support article for how to use the "View as Student" feature.
- In most situations, it is not possible to access third-party apps (such as a textbook) that have been integrated with Canvas because the "Test Student" is not a real student.
- If you assign something in your course to a specific student or give them an extension, the "Test Student" will not be able to try to mirror that experience.
- It is not possible to assign something specifically to the "Test Student".
Please let us know if you need anything else.
