Outcome editing post-assessments

Jump to solution

Hello all,

I have a teacher who was attempting to go entirely standards-based grading this year. He is using a formula to translate the aggregate outcome scores into a letter grade for reporting purposes (this is another post for another time). He just realized, however, that he forgot to mark the calculation method on several of his outcomes to a decaying average, which is throwing off all of this scores. I'm under the impression that outcomes can't be edited after they've been used to assess submitted work; is this a hard and immovable rule or is there a way to do this using fancier methods, like making a call to the API?

If it's not possible, does anyone have any suggestions for salvaging the Trimester? A data dump of some kind perhaps? The exported Learning Mastery Report only gives the calculated result. How could I gain access to the individual aligned items to manually calculate scores in Excel? Thank you in advance for any thought you might put into this!

Hi  @brueckert ,

Unfortunately at this time, once an outcome is created it is static or stuck the way it was created.  If it has been assessed (via rubric, magic marker or attached to a question bank) there is not a way to delete the outcome either, so it will always for the life of the course show up in the Learning Mastery Gradebook.

So to salvage the trimester, if you have account admin access you can pull a report from the account settings called "Outcomes Report."  You will be able to select the term, and then how you would like to organize the file: by user; by course; by outcomes.  Most likely you will want to sort by course so you group all of this particular instructors outcomes clustered together.  This file will be very detailed and have each assessment (Assignment, Discussion & Quiz) and the raw score the student received, not the calculated score from "Decaying Average."  The Instructor could then calculate from the raw data what the students need to receive for their Standards Based Grade.

It's not ideal, and hopefully we will soon have a better solution to updating, provisioning, and modifying outcomes.

Thanks!
