How do students submit photos and text in the same assignment

on the canvas app

Great question. This can be done by setting the assignment submission type to Online and Online Entry Options to Text Entry. 

The student then can use the Rich Content Editor when submitting using Text Entry in the mobile app. If they want to add photos with their text, they need to access the photo icon in the bottom right corner (they might need to swipe the menu over to view the icon).
