Printing Annotated Submitted Work

Our site has noticed that if we download students submitted work that they have completed using annotations, only the free drawing annotations show. If they have typed onto the document (in annotations), they dissapear when we go to print. Any ideas on how to see the typed work AND get it to print? Help!

Hi @CatherineDavids,

When downloaded, what program/app are you using to view the PDF file?  I have personally found that a lot of PDF viewers don't seem to handle annotations in the best way.  I'd recommend using Adobe Reader to open the files, if at all possible, as it has generally displayed all of the annotations for the files I've tried with it.

Let us know if using Adobe Reader to view the files helps!

I agree with @chriscas. While not ideal and extra steps, check for any issues with viewing annotated PDF files by using Adobe Reader instead of what is built into a lot of other platforms or third-party applications because they all handle PDF files and more "advanced" functionality differently.

I have had tutors asking why they are not seeing the annotations too, the issue with them happened to be that their web browser was the default app to open PDF's, once explained that they had to open the PDF with Adobe to see the full annotations it was like 'well that's dumb'

We do not have Adobe........YIKES! Any other ideas?

Hi @CatherineDavids,

Adobe Reader is a free program which primarily just views PDF files.  You should be able to install it, unless that's outright banner by your school/institution (in which case, you may want to talk to your school administrators about options to get it approved/installed).
