Repeated daily assignment?

I have a few teachers asking about creating a repeated, daily assignment - think entry task. Specifically, one teacher wants to do something with the standards and having kids record them each day so they can start to understand them. I'm struggling with helping them create this, as I can't duplicate and they aren't really excited to copy and paste over and over.

Anyone found a way to create this?

This is indeed a serious problem, but I think a fix is coming; at least "copy content" is now in the development pipeline! My guess is that there have been a LOT of feature requests and questions related to this; just last night someone was asking about how to copy Pages. Assignments, Quizzes, Pages, Modules... copying would be very useful!

@scottdennis ‌ what is going to be the best way to get the Khaki decisions in circulation outside of the private group space? I am guessing it will be helpful to be able to collect these use-cases (I've seen a couple of search-related and content-copying-related queries just this week alone), and it would be good to have an existing Feature Request page or Discussion or something for each item. We could then link to them so people can see that something is in the works for each of the items that got selected.

Since Khaki stuff is public and meant to be public ( @kmeeusen  shared the big list in one of the discussions that was ongoing yesterday I think) , maybe there should be a series of feature request posts labeled or tagged Khaki in some way, and then we could link to those, and they could also be the public-facing documentation of progress so far...? I wanted to write up something about Search this weekend, and it seems like an organized presentation of all the Khaki ideas would help bring some attention to the project overall and also help us in continuing the dialogue in a public space too, making it easy for everybody to chime in and accumulate use-cases and other potentially helpful information.

Not sure how best to handle that, but something public-facing beyond the group space would be good, right?

Hi  @jhough ‌ - This is exactly the sort of thing that something like iMacros would be good for IF you think your teachers might be willing to give it a try.  I don't like to toot my own horn, but I posted a document on using iMacros to create multiple assignments at once here:  https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-8525-creating-multiple-assignments-in-canvas-at-the-same-ti... .  You don't even have to go into the whole CSV file stuff at the end.  Just the very basic lesson at the beginning may be enough to get them started, though they would have to then go in and edit each created assignment individually.  But until a solution is out, it may be worth experimenting with if you are interested.

Hi  @jhough

I do have a thought (maybe two) on how this can be accomplished using the existing Canvas functionality - nobody wants to wait, right?

I am thinking that if I were to do this in one of my own course, and I have done this in the past, but on a much smaller scale, I would use a single assignment with a grading rubric in which each criteria represents an assignment date, and the specified point value for each date. Students would submit today, teacher would score the first criteria in the rubric, then students would submit tomorrow and teacher would score the second criteria, ad infinitum. The grading rubric could get rather cumbersome when stretched over an entire term, but would be quite workable if this was done on a weekly basis, with a new assignment, reusing the same rubric were created for each week.

Another option that could be useful if the teacher wants the entire class to be able to view individual student reflections, would be to use a weekly discussion that incorporates a similar grading rubric (this is also how I have done this in the past).

I hope this helps,

Kelley

Hi Laura,

I know that we will soon be adding more info about Khaki to the https://community.canvaslms.com/community/ideas?sr=search&searchId=c0539e01-0e1b-4dfb-a25e-1f5734528...‌ space - not sure what form that information will be posted in but coming soon!

Perfect!!! 🙂
