Reporting Non-Numerical Information to Students

I have two sections of the same course that have two different assigned dates for their final exams.  I am allowing students in one section to choose to take the exam on the alternative date if they inform me that they would like to do so well before the exam date.  How do I report their selections in a confidential way?  That is, I had thought about using a no-point-value assignment to confirm (post) their selections, but is there a way that I can enter non-numerical information there?  That is, I would like to report the date or the day of the week they have selected so there is no confusion.
