Sidebar will not show any icons

My canvas sidebar one day suddenly had a big grey rectangle on the side of my screen blocking all my important icons and interfering with my work. If I reload the normal sidebar with icons will appear for a split second before the grey rectangle comes in. I've tried clearing my cache already and I'm not sure whats wrong.

This is quite some interesting behavior that you're experiencing! Have you by chance attempted to use Canvas on a different browser than the one you're using? This issue could range from just being a temporary browser related issue, to an error in your institution's canvas theming if your school's admin set up custom CSS or JavaScript.

I'd recommend..
1. Seeing if you get the same behavior on other browsers.
2. Reaching out to your school's Canvas team to inform them of the behavior.
3. Clearing cache and cookies and restarting your device.
