Submitting Assignments Time Limits

Jump to solution

I have a student who tried submitting comments in the discussion forum  with a cut-off time of 5pm. She logged in at 4:45pm and again at 4:49pm but was not able to post her comments. Is this because she did not do a final submission before 5p (was typing for 15 minutes but went passed 5p)? Does submission cut-off considered the beginning time logged on or does it reverence the actual cut-off (5pm)?  Thanks

@djmullin , it's not clear from your description whether the student logged in at 4:45 pm and was unable to contribute to the discussion because she could not access it, or whether she logged in at 4:45 pm and typed until after 5:00 pm, at which point she clicked on the Post Reply button to attempt to submit the reply she had composed. Generally speaking, regardless of when the student logs on or starts to compose a reply, if she does not complete the reply and click the Post Reply button before the due date and time, she will not be able to post; the discussion topic is closed for further contributions as soon as the due date and time have passed.

If you would like to give students some leeway in this regard, and if it is a graded discussion, you can set your Due Date and Available Until times 10-15 minutes apart, as shown below.
