Hello,
The Canvas video guides for students, instructors, and admins will be deprecated in December 2025. Where can I find a short video that provides an overview of Canvas's basic navigation for newly enrolled students? I could not find a video short in the Introduction within Canvas student guides.
Thank you!

Hi @tl-learning,
Thank you for pointing this out. I was not aware that the "Video Guides" page of the Community was going to be deprecated.
I believe that message is referring to going into a specific guide (such as https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/Canvas-Basics-Guide/How-do-I-view-my-courses-in-the-Card-View-Das...) and watching the video from within that guide.
Unless it is in the process of being designed/developed, it sounds like there is not going to be a central location of "shorts" / videos.

Thank you so much for your concern, and Nuttalg, you're absolutely right—most auto-generated voice-to-text tools do tend to have errors. Guidde is designed to work the other way around: it goes from text to voice. That means our writers carefully review and finalize the text first, and then the AI generates the voiceover from that approved script.
That said, we did uncover a bug during our review. It turns out that the platform was not only generating voice from the text, but also trying to regenerate the text from the AI voice—essentially reversing the process unintentionally. That’s when we started noticing all the strange punctuation and inconsistencies. We're meeting with their team to address this issue directly.

@tl-learning ...
I'll just add to @dbrace's response that several (not all) Guides do have these "Shorts" videos, but I am not sure if the plan is to have a video for all Guides or for just certain ones. So, if you find that a written Guide doesn't have an embedded video just yet, it *might* be coming sometime in the future, but I really don't know for certain.
Leaving this comment here in hopes it gets back to the Canvas LMS team. I have trouble with audio processing due to an acquired disability. I need to use the Shorts videos as supplemental material for my "Intro to Canvas" course for faculty members at my institution. It's hard for me to select which videos to use due to the inaccurate captions. Auto/AI-generated captions are not Section 508 compliant. Please fix this.
Remember: If you're going to use AI, you need to have a human in the loop.
Hi @HennyTasker1 - Thank you for your feedback! The inaccuracies in the captions are due to a bug in the tool we use (Guidde). It has been escalated to their Product team and we have a meeting with them on May 6th.
I think it's less of a "bug" and more of a lack of having a human in the QA process -- but I'm glad you all will be fixing this. I'll follow up as needed.
It seems that Canvas is going backward instead of forward. I don't know of any auto-generated captions that are 99% accurate as required by Section 508. Most AI-generated captions are 85% accurate at best. I'm not sure why this change is taking place, but I hope there is human supervision for captioning.

This is super-annoying. I have linked to many of these video guides in many of our help resources and now they are just being yanked.
Is there going to be a video that gives students an overview of Canvas? This thread does not show where the "Shorts" videos are.
@Naomi, I see that you were the author of What's Next for Instructure Video Guides? - Instructure Community - 639943 . Are you able to help out @chrisgenthe?
-Doug
Hi, @chrisgenthe! You can find links and embed code replacements for the current videos in the Overview Video Guides Replacement resource doc.
