arrow in formula not recognized when importing from examview

When importing a Blackboard 6/7/8/9 export .zip file the arrow symbol in chemical formulas are not recognized and are replaced with the "®" symbol. I have to edit each chemical equation before publishing. Is there a better way to import files from Examview.
