Thank you for contacting the Canvas Community. We're sorry to hear you've been experiencing issues with submitting first day grades. Are you doing this via the "attendance" tool on the lefty of your course navigation or another tool? Different schools have different processes and applications for submitting attendance and it may be best to speak with the school directly as that error message shouldn't be coming from Canvas directly. If you are using the attendance tool, this guide may be helpful:

If that doesn't resolve the error message, please reach out to your admissions or registrar office directly to make sure the students are active and enrolled properly. Hopefully this helps!
