replacing or updating a rubric

is there a way to update or replace a rubric - lets say there's a typo in in - but students have been assessed against it - how can i update or replace the rubric?

in particular the last sentence.  I am not sure what exactly that means or how it pertains to an assignment rubric.  It may mean that you have to regrade the assignments.

I have a way of testing out what you want (without disrupting anything in my course).

I graded an assignment with a rubric for a student.  I then went to the assignment and clicked on edit the rubirc.  In doing so I get the following message:

 So I modified some of the criteria and went back to that student.  All the marks for the unchanged entries were still there.  However, the entries I changed have to be regraded.  so it looks like you can do what you want - you will just have to go back and regrade a few points.  By the way you can also add more criteria to the rubric.

A word of warning.  I would make sure that the grades are hidden from the students before modifying the rubric.  The original grade will show until you regrade and resave the grade with the new criteria.

I think CANVAS should have an option to automatically regrade students when a rubric is updated.

While I can see why you would want it to be automatic, there is no way to know how the modified rubric should be regraded.  It just makes more sense to leave any possible regrades up to the instructor when the rubric is modified.  All of the possible scenarios that can arise from modifying a rubric does not make sense for an automatic regrade.

I probably did not explain myself. I just updated the points in a rubric, not the criteria, and probably just an automatic regrade using the updated points would save us time, instead of now manually changing each total grade for the activity, Hope it clears it out.

I was thinking that was what you meant, but I was not 100% sure.  it would make sense that if all that changed were the point values that it would be able to regrade.  But without knowing how all of that is handled by the code in Canvas, there is no way for us to armchair quarterback it.

 To help you out (if you want to - or more importantly allowed to) I would install the quiz-wiz javascript and use it in your rubric grading.  It incorporates a save, advance student and reopen rubric into a single button.  So if you are having to go into the rubrics for regrading the quizzes it will help.

You want to install the quizwiz-rubrics version.  If you use classic quizzes, quizwiz helps with grading those quizzes as well.  The save and advance on rubrics is definitely a time saver.  Along those lines you will also probably want max rubrics script as well.  I use these scripts all the time and James has several others.  They are all excellent and well tested by a contributor to the forum for several years.
