why isn't the list of groups showing up in my assignment as an instructor

In the past when I assigned an assignment as a group assignment I would get a list of the groups after I published the assignment - now I don't. Does anyone know why????

I am going to ask the silly question....... did you assign the assignments to groups while creating it? Typically this is done before publishing an assignment.

I had set up groups in people and then created the assignment making it a

group assignment by selecting the group set. In the past a list of groups

would appear in the assignment so the instructor could see it. Did that go

away?

After designating this a group assignment and choosing the Group Set, did you also complete the "Assign to" dialog? I have had many faculty forget that step?

Once those steps are completed and you save and publish, you will see this............

Hi 

I have never had to do that before - that seems crazy if you are assigning to only specific groups. Is this new - I have never in the three years I have worked with Canvas and I have used groups many times. I highlighted the language directly from the guide that says I shouldn't have to do assignments to each group - hmmmm.

Assign Different Dates for Groups

By default, Canvas will assign your assignment to everyone in your course. To add new due and availability dates for other users in your course, click the Add button [1].

Then start to type the name of the group in the new Assign to field [2]. Search fields are dynamic, and you can search by any part of the group name. Click the group's name when it appears [3]. Lists are not scrollable.

Why does it show up in Discussions with the list of groups under the title and not Assignments - this inconsistency is driving me a little crazy (not a long trip )

So if I'm reading this correctly, it is not possible to create assignments and then groups and designate the assignments to a specific group? The group must be made first and then the assignment? I copied my course over and then went to make my groups and designated assignments, and it doesn't seem like I can do it in that order. Given the amount of course copying we do, this seems like something that should be made so it can be done in either order.
