In this Canvas by Instructure update, the Canvas MasteryPaths feature and indenting Module items are supported. Additionally, icons have been updated in the app.
Download the Canvas by Instructure app in the iTunes Store. Version 3.16 requires iOS 9.0 or later.
The Canvas MasteryPaths feature allows instructors to customize learning experiences to students based on student performance. In the Canvas by Instructure app, students are led through activities based on their learning path. If options are available, students may be able to choose their own content and assignments within a specific path.
MasteryPaths requires the Mastery Paths feature option in account settings, which can be enabled by any Canvas admin. For more information about Mastery Paths, please view the Canvas Release: MasteryPaths document.
The Canvas by Instructure app supports indentation of module items.
All icons throughout the Canvas app have been updated to reflect the new Instructure icon library. No functionality has been affected. This new library enables consistency across all Canvas apps. All Instructure icons can be viewed in the Github Instructure Icons documentation page.
I keep mentioning this but the iOS app and the way it handles LTI launches in the modules is a bit problematic. The Android app does not behave the same way. The iOS app adds an extra layer of navigation assuming that the launch has a browser affect that needs to utilize the ability for the user to navigate web pages. Not sure what the solution would be but our student population at PSU are not really using the iOS app and we think it is due to this performance.
I find that the change from the chain link to the letters LTI to be a little distracting because it doesn't match the regular browser version. I'm looking for consistency so I know that I'm in the same LMS. But maybe that's just a personal opinion.
Thanks for your feedback. Our mobile team is working on a new design for web pages embedded inside modules, which is probably the behavior that most of your students are experiencing. So hopefully we can improve that user experience in a future release. We’ll also pass on the feedback about the icon to our mobile design team. The browser version is getting an update this release, which will ensure that all our products have consistency with icons.
