Canvas Deploy Notes (2020-07-15)

Canvas Deploy Notes (2020-07-15)

Canvas deploys contain code changes that are intended to fix bugs, improve performance, and prepare for new features, but they do not affect customer workflows. These deploys take place every two weeks and can be tested in the beta environment before the production deploy date indicated in the title of this document. Intended changes in workflow are noted in the Canvas Release Notes published monthly.

Deploy notes may include notable fixed bugs, bugs included in the Canvas Known Issues list, and additional updates that do not affect user functionality.

Course Import

Outcomes Selection

Summary

As part of a course import or course copy, learning outcomes are only imported if they do not already exist within a new course. Additionally, the Select Specific Content option allows Outcomes to be imported individually.

Change Benefit

This change prevents duplication of outcomes into new courses and also allows specific outcomes to be imported individually when needed.

Affected User Roles

Admins, Instructors

The option to select specific content as part of a course import allows a user to select the content that should be imported for the course. The Outcomes content area allows a user to import all outcomes, no outcomes, or individual outcomes.

New Rich Content Editor

Fixed Navigation Menu

Summary

The New Rich Content Editor Menu bar remains fixed for long page content.

Change Benefit

This change helps users access the menu bar when working with content anywhere in the Rich Content Editor.

Affected User Roles

Instructors

When content in a browser window is long enough to require a scroll bar, the New Rich Content Editor menu bar is fixed at the top of the browser window. Users can scroll the length of the browser page and manage content in the New Rich Content Editor without having to scroll back up the page to access the menu.

Page View Activity

Page view interaction is logged after five seconds of activity.

Explanation: When a user interacted with a page but left the page in less than five minutes, no interaction seconds were logged for the user’s participation as a page view. Previously Canvas should have logged activity after 30 seconds of interaction. Canvas code has been updated to log interaction after five seconds of activity.

Quizzes

Unanswered Question Types

All question types correctly show as unanswered questions.

Explanation: When students were allowed to see the correct answers for a quiz, depending on the question type, unanswered questions were being identified as Unanswered or Incorrect. Canvas code has been updated to identify all unanswered questions as Unanswered.

Rich Content Editor

LTI Launches

LTI tools can be launched from the classic or New Rich Content Editor.

Explanation: When an LTI tool was launched from the classic or New Rich Content Editor, the LTI would not load. Canvas code has been updated to replace the InstUI component that manages the loading status for the page.
