Our institution recently renewed our license for Studio with our Canvas LMS Package, and as such, we are trying to encourage faculty to use Studio whenever possible to record their videos for classes.
We know our faculty will appreciate the auto-captioning and analytics that come with using Studio. However, one thing we are having to leave behind is the ability to have an institutionally branded wrapper on the videos that faculty produce. This makes some faculty uneasy, as they know the videos can be downloaded, and they would like the ability to mark the videos as such.
We are looking for a way we can assign a branded wrapper (even just the same logo we use for our Global Canvas Navigation and Login) to our institution's Studio instance, where all videos recorded could have a branding element built in, that wouldn't involve any additional coding in the page or video's location.
I have already submitted this as an Idea in Canvas ([Studio] Institutional Branding Wrappers), but maybe traction here could help it fall under consideration by developers.
@EmilyCottrell ...
What an interesting idea, Emily! Thanks for submitting as a new idea! At our College, we have a small video team that helps us put a logo at the beginning of instructional videos we make, but I could see value in what you describe. For the time being, do you use the thumbnail feature in Studio to place a static image (*.jpg, *.png, etc.) on your videos so that people could see your school logo instead of a single random frame from the video itself? How do I replace a Canvas Studio video thumbnail? - Instructure Community - 1698
It's not exactly what you are looking for, but maybe it would work for the time being. Just a thought...for what it's worth.
Thanks Chris 🙂 We have used thumbnails for some things, but we have had requests from faculty to have the institution's logo within the player (like beside the play button). But being able to add your own thumbnail has definitely been a huge benefit for being able to add an element of branding to videos for now.
