Chat feature in C4E?

Is it possible to turn on the Chat feature in the C4E theme?

I've spoken with Canvas Support, and the answer is no, but this is a major oversight. Canvas, please bring this feature back.

We were able to move it up in Navigation and it appeared that it would be placed under resources. Have you tried this? It appeared that it would work, but everything seems to be trial and testing.

I have a teacher testing it now.
