C4E: Subject Card Titles

Jump to solution

When C4E was first presented, one feature mentioned was that teachers would be able to nickname their course in a way that all users would see the nickname (rather than the current user-specific view). Right now, the course title on the card and in the banner pulls from the long_name field that we send over from the SIS file. This has always been a bit problematic because it overflows the card, and with the larger elementary font, this is even more exaggerated. It's also not a very friendly name for the card or the banner.

I realize we could enable the permission that allows teachers to rename their courses, but that allowance would make it near impossible for admin users to use the course search function. At the moment, I don't even see the existing nickname feature on the cards in the new UI. Is this feature forthcoming? Is there a way to pull short_name into the card title and the banner? Some cases where the fewer characters becomes a problem:

  • Related arts teachers with multiple grade levels of the same subject (ex. 6 PE cards)
  • Co teachers with more than one card for the same subject area (can't see the primary teacher's name

Here's a PE teacher who is a co teacher. On the dashboard, you can't tell who the teacher of record is for each of the 3rd and 5th grade courses:

Hi, @christopher_gil,

This is now available. Teachers should see the option for Friendly Name in their course settings. See the screenshot below for context.
