As we get closer to our read-only date on November 22, we want to provide an important round of updates so that you feel confident about what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and how you can prepare.
Redirects & Link Behavior
We know redirects can be a major source of concern, so we want to address that directly.
- We’ll be thoroughly testing redirects as part of our migration process to ensure they work as expected.
- In future communications we'll provide a simple way to report any redirect that isn’t functioning correctly, and our team will prioritize fixes.
- Jive-era URLs (links July 2020 and older) will break. These were carried over during the Jive → Khoros migration, and unfortunately cannot be preserved in the move to Vanilla.
- Tips for checking URLs:
- Check your saved URLs for canvaslms.community.com/t5. This indicates a Khoros-era link and will be redirected.
- Check guide URLs for /DOC-#### (example - https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-2059). This indicates a Jive-era link and will no longer redirect.
- After December 10, run the Link Validator in your Canvas courses to find and update any URLs that may have broken along the way.
Our goal still persists - continuity of service with non-disruptive delights - and redirects are a big part of that.
Roadmap & Ideas
The public roadmap will remain the same throughout the migration. While Ideas won’t be visible in the new Community at launch, we want to be transparent about what that means and how your input continues to shape our products:
- Your ideas are not lost. All ideas have been migrated to a feedback system that Product is actively querying to understand themes, trends, and customer needs.
- The Product team will be sharing a future update on how their feedback pilot is progressing - you can find the most recent update here.
Known Issues
To help keep you informed during the transition, we’ll be managing known issues temporarily in a shared spreadsheet.
- You’ll find direct access to this spreadsheet on the Known Issues page.
- Once the new Community is live, these updates will be retrofitted back into the standard Known Issues experience so everything is centralized again.
Release Notes Timing
We’ve coordinated closely with the Product Team to ensure that no releases - or release-related changes - will occur while the Community is in read-only mode. This prevents gaps in communication and ensures that nothing shifts while our official channel is temporarily paused. When releases resume, all updates will publish directly into the new Community environment.
Translated Release Notes
We approached the migration of translated release notes with care and data.
- Canvas Spanish & Portuguese release notes will migrate over. These will live temporarily in a Knowledge Base space while we build toward a broader long-term translation solution.
- All other translated notes for Canvas and Impact will not be migrated due to very low utilization. These links will redirect to the English versions.
We know this may be a tough change for some. While not ideal, our recommendation in the interim is to use browser-based or AI-powered translation as we’re actively working toward a more scalable Community AI translation solution.
Direct Messages
Only direct messages from January 1, 2025 forward will migrate.
If you have older messages you’d like to keep, please make a copy before November 22.
We appreciate your patience, grace, and partnership as we move through the final steps of this transition. Our goal is to make this migration as seamless as possible while laying the foundation for a stronger, more flexible Community experience. We can’t wait to welcome you into the refreshed Community on December 10 - there’s no need to pack anything else up. Your profile details, including your name and photo, will migrate smoothly.
